Use the GoDaddy Smart Terminal Pro to create and process in-person orders, sync with your online catalog, add additional users, view your transaction and payout history, and tailor your device to your business needs with additional apps from the App Center. You can also connect external accessories, like a printer or a cash drawer.
Follow the steps below to set up your Smart Terminal Pro, test it out and get everything ready to process orders.
Step 1: Unbox the Smart Terminal Pro
Your Smart Terminal Pro includes a Smart Terminal Pro display, stand, accessory hub, USB-C cable and power adapter. Open the boxes included in the packaging and identify all the different components.
- Open the outer box and remove the boxes nested inside.
- Unpack the inner boxes and familiarize yourself with the components of each one:
- Flat rectangular box (on top): Includes the Smart Terminal Pro display, USB-C power cable and power adapter.
- Small box: Includes the Smart Terminal Pro accessory hub.
- Large box: Includes the Smart Terminal Pro stand.
Step 2: Assemble the Smart Terminal Pro
Connect the Smart Terminal Pro display, stand and accessory hub together, and position it in your workspace.
- The display sits on the swivel stand.
- The accessory hub is where you’ll connect the power cord and any external accessories.
Connect the accessory hub
- Turn the stand over and locate the plug-in compartment on the bottom.
- Plug the accessory hub into the USB port on the bottom of the stand.
- Tuck the cord into the groove on the bottom of the stand, so the cord is flush with the stand.
- Turn the stand right-side up. The accessory hub should now extend from the side of the stand.
Prepare the stand
- Raise the arms on the stand to their full height.
- Tilt the tray on the stand so that it faces towards the card swipe slot on the stand. Make sure the top arrow on the tray is pointing up.
Attach the display to the stand
- Remove the protective film from the display and the tray.
- Locate the chip card slot on the display. This side will be on top when it’s connected to the stand.
- Align the connector port on the back of the display with the connector port on the stand and attach the display to the stand. The chip card slot on the display should be facing up, with the power button on the right. You’ll hear the connectors lock into place.
Note: The display is easy to attach and detach, but it’s a good idea to practice a few times to get a feel for it. To remove the display from the stand, locate the release button on the back of the tray. Slide down and hold the button, and gently pull the display away by the bottom edge. Your display remains fully functional while it’s detached from the stand.
- Once the display is connected, swivel it by grasping a support arm and turning the swivel to the left or right. You can swivel the screen to face the customer or merchant and adjust the angle of the display to a position that suits you.
Position the Smart Terminal Pro in your workspace
- When you’re ready to place the Smart Terminal Pro where you want it, clean and dry the area where you'll place it.
- Turn the stand over and remove the two adhesive strips on the bottom.
- Turn the stand right-side up and position it on your counter or in your workspace.
- Gently press the stand onto the countertop. The adhesive helps keep the Smart Terminal Pro from moving or shifting during use.
Step 3: Charge the Smart Terminal Pro
Your Smart Terminal Pro comes packaged with an accessory hub, USB-C power cable and a power adapter. For best results, make sure to charge your Smart Terminal Pro completely before you use it. This is especially important when you’re using it for the first time. It usually takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge the Smart Terminal Pro.
Note: When the display and stand are connected, the power cord must be plugged into the accessory hub to charge the display – not the USB-C port on the side of the display. When the display is connected to the stand, it only receives power through the accessory hub.
- Plug the USB-C power cable into the hub and into the power adapter. Connect the power adapter to a power source.
- Make sure the display is connected to the stand.
- Allow it to charge for 3.5 hours. While it’s charging, you can lightly tap the power button on the side of the display to see the current battery charge.
- Once the Smart Terminal Pro is fully charged, press the power button on the side of the display for three seconds to turn it on.
Note: Because the power cord runs through the stand, we recommend leaving the display connected to the stand as much as possible to make sure it maintains a charge.
Step 4: Complete first-time setup
Once you’ve charged up the Smart Terminal Pro, connect to wi-fi and sync it to your account. When you first turn it on, you’ll just need to tweak a few settings and then you’ll be ready to go.
- After fully charging the Smart Terminal Pro, press the power button on the side of the display for three seconds to turn it on.
- On the Welcome screen, select your language from the list, then tap Continue.
- Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to use for transactions. To securely process payments, be sure to connect to a private, password-protected network (WPA, WPA2 or WPA 2SK). Enter your network password, then tap Connect.
- Your Smart Terminal Pro will check for software updates, configure the card reader, check your account activation status, and configure additional settings. Allow the device a few minutes to download, install and reboot.
- After connecting to wi-fi, follow the onscreen directions to scan the QR code from your welcome email using the front-facing camera (above the Smart Terminal Pro screen).
Step 5: Complete a test transaction
Run a test transaction to make sure everything is working as expected. You’ll need to use your own credit or debit card for this. But don’t worry – you can void out the charge after you’ve processed it and there won’t be any charges or fees.
- From the Smart Terminal Pro home page, tap Terminal to access the keypad.
- Enter a small amount like $1.00, then tap Charge.
- Insert, tap or swipe your credit card. This is also a good time to familiarize yourself with different payment methods. (Problems reading the credit card? Check out our troubleshooting tips for help.)
- For chip cards, insert the card into the slot above the payment screen. Make sure the front of the card is facing towards the screen, with the chip inserted first. Don't remove the card during the transaction.
- For credit cards without a chip, swipe the card along the slot on the base of the stand, with the magnetic strip facing down and towards the display. Use a smooth motion and uniform speed when swiping.
- For contactless (NFC) payments, tap the card or device on the NFC icon on the upper-left corner of the payment screen and keep it close to the smart terminal during the transaction.
- Enter your signature when prompted, then tap Done.
- Select how you’d like to receive a receipt (Paper, Email or Text).
Note: Out of the box, the Smart Terminal Pro can send receipts via email or text. To print paper receipts, you’ll need to connect an external printer.
- Your test transaction is now complete! But – now we need to void that charge. Here’s how:
- Return to the home page and select Transactions.
- You should see the charge you just processed. Tap the transaction, then Void.
- Tap Yes.
- Tap Close. The transaction now shows Voided, meaning the charge will not be applied to your credit card. In the future, you’ll follow this same process whenever you need to void or refund a charge.
