Connect a printer to a GoDaddy smart terminal

Every GoDaddy smart terminal includes a built-in printer, but you can also connect it to an external printer with a USB, network or Bluetooth connection. Make sure to test your printer once it’s connected to make sure it’s working properly.

If you have multiple external printers (for example, a printer in the bar and a printer in the kitchen), you can connect each of them to your smart terminal via an Ethernet (Wi-Fi network) connection. This option is currently only available for compatible Star wi-fi network printers. The same printer can also be connected to multiple smart terminals.

Note: Accessories can be connected to the GoDaddy Smart Terminal Flex and N910 via wi-fi network connection only.

USB

Available for: GoDaddy Smart Terminal, Smart Terminal Pro

1. Navigate to the Smart Terminal home menu.
2. With the printer turned off, connect the USB cord from the printer directly into the Smart Terminal charging dock (Duo) or accessory hub (Pro).
   • Smart Terminal Pro: The Smart Terminal Pro display, stand and accessory hub must remain connected while using the printer.
   • Smart Terminal: The Smart Terminal must remain in the charging dock while using the printer.
3. Load the printer paper if you haven't yet.
4. Turn the printer on. A confirmation notification will appear on the Smart Terminal home menu that says the printer is connected. Tap Finish Setup.
5. Print a test receipt and customize the name and receipt settings to complete the printer setup.
   1. After connecting the printer, tap Print Test Page. Wait for the receipt to print, then tap Yes, it printed to confirm.
   2. Enter a custom Name for the printer (like “Bar” or “Kitchen”). Tap Save and continue.
   3. If you’ve connected a printer-driven cash drawer, tap Test it here to open the drawer. Otherwise, tap Skip to continue with printer setup.
   4. Tap Go to Receipt Settings. To assign specific receipts to print from this printer (like an order or customer receipt), update the receipt settings for the printer.

Ethernet (Network router)

Available for: GoDaddy Smart Terminal Pro, GoDaddy Smart Terminal Flex, GoDaddy Smart Terminal

Connect the Smart Terminal to a wi-fi network using either a wireless or Ethernet (wired) connection. Then, connect the printer to the same router with an Ethernet cable.

1. Connect the Smart Terminal to a Wi-Fi network, using either a wireless or Ethernet (wired) connection.
2. With the printer turned off, connect one end of the Ethernet cable into the printer and the other end into the same Wi-Fi router that the Smart Terminal is connected to.
3. Find the IP address for the printer:
   1. Load the printer paper if you haven’t yet.
   2. With the printer powered off, press and hold the printer’s power button and feed button for a few seconds.
   3. The printer will print two test receipts. Release the feed button when it begins printing the first receipt.
   4. Locate the IP address on the second test receipt. The IP address will be listed in the IP Parameters towards the bottom of the second receipt.
4. Turn on the printer if it’s still powered off.
5. Add the printer to the Smart Terminal:
   1. On the Smart Terminal, tap Accessories on the first page of the Smart Terminal home menu.
   2. Tap Add accessory, then tap Printers and then tap Network.
   3. Follow the onscreen steps to double-check your connections and printer paper. Tap Next until you reach the IP address input screen.
   4. Under Printer Model, select your printer brand and model from the drop-down list.
   5. Under IP Address, enter the IP address from your test receipt. Tap Connect.
6. Print a test receipt and customize the name and receipt settings to complete the printer setup.
   1. After connecting the printer, tap Print Test Page. Wait for the receipt to print, then tap Yes, it printed to confirm.
   2. Enter a custom Name for the printer (like “Bar” or “Kitchen”). Tap Save and continue.
   3. If you’ve connected a printer-driven cash drawer, tap Test it here to open the drawer. Otherwise, tap Skip to continue with printer setup.
   4. Tap Go to Receipt Settings. To assign specific receipts to print from this printer (like an order or customer receipt), update the receipt settings for the printer.
7. (Optional) You can also connect multiple printers to the same Smart Terminal or connect one printer to multiple Smart Terminals. Here’s how:
   • Multiple printers to the same Smart Terminal: Repeat steps 2-6 for each printer you want to add. Make sure to add a nickname and assign receipt types to each printer, to keep track of what you want to print to each location.
   • Multiple Smart Terminals to the same printer: Connect each Smart Terminal (using wired or wireless connection) to the same router that the printer is connected to. Then repeat steps 4-6 on each Smart Terminal to connect it to the printer.

Bluetooth

Available for: GoDaddy Smart Terminal Pro, GoDaddy Smart Terminal

Connect a printer directly to your Smart Terminal using a Bluetooth connection. Currently, only select legacy printers connect via Bluetooth.

1. Load the printer paper and turn on the Bluetooth printer.
2. Add the printer to the Smart Terminal:
   1. On the Smart Terminal, tap Accessories on the first page of the Smart Terminal home menu.
   2. Tap Add accessory, then tap Printers and then tap Bluetooth.
   3. Follow the onscreen steps to double-check your connections and printer paper, then search for Bluetooth printers. Tap Next until you reach a list of detected printers.
   4. Tap your printer, then tap Next to connect it.
3. Print a test receipt and customize the name and receipt settings to complete the printer setup.
   1. After connecting the printer, tap Print Test Page. Wait for the receipt to print, then tap Yes, it printed to confirm.
   2. Enter a custom Name for the printer (like “Bar” or “Kitchen”). Tap Save and continue.
   3. If you’ve connected a printer-driven cash drawer, tap Test it here to open the drawer. Otherwise, tap Skip to continue with printer setup.
   4. Tap Go to Receipt Settings. To assign specific receipts to print from this printer (like an order or customer receipt), update the receipt settings for the printer.

Printer test

Once you’ve connected your printer, print a test receipt to make sure it’s working properly.

1. Tap Accessories on the first page of the Smart Terminal home menu.
2. Locate the printer you want to test and tap Test.
3. Verify that a test receipt printed, then tap Yes, it printed.

Note: If a test receipt does not print, review the printer instruction manual to make sure the printer paper is loaded correctly and use the info above to double-check the setup steps for your printer type.

Printer preferences

Manage your printers or external accessories directly from your smart terminal. The internal printer is your default printer but can be switched by updating your printer preferences.

1. Tap Accessories on the first page of the Smart Terminal home menu to open the Accessory Manager.
2. Perform any of the following actions:
   • Connect an external accessory: Tap Add Accessory for a step-by-step guide to connect an external printer, cash drawer or barcode scanner.
   • Add an accessory nickname: Tap Edit next to an accessory to assign a nickname (like “Bar” or “Kitchen”). This is especially useful if you have multiple accessories connected to your Smart Terminal.
   • Enable or disable accessories: Tap the toggle next to an accessory to enable or disable the accessory. Disabling an accessory lets you stop using it without disconnecting it. Tap the toggle again to enable the accessory when you’re ready to resume using it.
   • Remove an accessory: To disconnect an accessory from the Smart Terminal, unplug any accessory cords and then tap Remove. To use the accessory again in the future, you will need to go through the full accessory connection process.
   • Test an accessory: Tap Test below a printer (or a printer with a linked cash drawer) to print a test receipt and open the cash drawer. For a directly connected cash drawer, tap Test below the cash drawer to open the drawer.
   • Adjust receipt settings: Tap Receipt Settings to adjust your receipt settings. You can customize your receipt appearance, choose when to print receipts and assign specific receipt types (like an order or customer receipt) to print from each connected printer.
