Use the GoDaddy Poynt Card Reader and the GoDaddy Commerce app to easily accept credit card payments on the go with your mobile device. From farmers markets to festivals - you can sell anything, anywhere!
Follow the steps below to charge your Card Reader, pair it to the Commerce app and complete a test transaction.
Step 1: Charge the Card Reader
Your Card Reader comes packaged with a charging cradle and USB-C cable that you can use to charge it up. For best results, make sure to charge your Card Reader completely before you use it. This is especially important when you’re using it for the first time.
-
Connect the USB-C cable to your Card Reader, then connect it to a power source. There are two ways to connect your Card Reader:
- Place the Card Reader in the charging cradle, plug in the USB-C cable, then connect it to a power source.
- Plug the USB-C cable directly into the Card Reader and connect it to a power source.
-
Once the Card Reader is fully charged (2-3 hours), press the power button on the side of the device to turn it on. The LED on the side will flash blue to let you know it’s ready to connect.
Step 2: Pair the Card Reader to the mobile app
After you’ve charged up your Poynt Card Reader, sync it with the GoDaddy Commerce app. Once they’re connected, you’ll be able to process credit card payments anywhere you bring your phone.
- Download the GoDaddy Commerce app and sign in.
- Tap Payments.
-
Tap Set Up Card Reader then tap Set It Up. If you don't see this, tap Start Selling, and then
in the upper right corner.
Note: If your phone’s Bluetooth is turned off, you’ll see a message directing you to turn it on. Tap Open Settings, then Allow to turn on your phone’s Bluetooth and find the Card Reader. You might also be prompted to allow location access.
-
Press the power button on the side of the Card Reader to turn it on. The LED on the side will begin flashing blue to let you know it’s ready to connect.
- The Commerce app will search for available Bluetooth devices. Tap your Card Reader when it appears in the list. (Card Reader not appearing? Check out our troubleshooting tips for help.)
- In the Commerce app, tap Continue.
- Tap Pair to connect the Commerce app with the Card Reader.
-
When you’re asked for a PIN, enter the BT Passkey that’s printed on your Card Reader. Tap Pair to complete the connection.
- Your Card Reader is now synced to the GoDaddy Commerce app. Tap Start Selling to return to the keypad screen.
Step 3: Run a test transaction
Run a test transaction to make sure everything’s working as expected. You’ll need to use your own credit or debit card for this. But don’t worry – you can void out the charge after you’ve processed it and there won’t be any charges or fees.
-
In the GoDaddy Commerce app, tap Payments, then tap Start Selling to access the keypad.
- Enter a small amount like $1.00, then tap
+ Item.
- Tap Checkout.
-
Tap Tax (please set). Enter a sales tax percentage and tap Done twice.
Note: If you’re not sure about the tax rate for your area, this IRS website is a great resource. Future orders will default to the tax percent that you set, but you can adjust it any time you enter a new order.
- Tap Charge, then tap Card Reader as the payment method.
- Insert, tap or swipe your credit card, then tap Continue. (Problems reading the credit card? Check out our troubleshooting tips for help.)
- Add your signature, then tap Continue.
- Enter the Email or Phone where you want to receive a receipt for the transaction, then tap Done.
- Your test transaction is now complete! But – now we need to void that charge. Here’s how:
- Return to the main Payments area of the Commerce app and tap Transactions.
- You should see the charge you just processed. Tap the transaction, then Void Transaction.
- Tap Yes, Void.
- Send yourself another receipt if you want to, then tap Done. The transaction now shows Voided, meaning the charge will not be applied to your credit card. In the future, you’ll follow this same process whenever you need to void or refund a charge.
